The past few articles I have written have discussed the supplements Dr. Christopher recommends in his Mucusless Diet program. These whole food supplements: cayenne, apple cider vinegar & honey, wheat germ oil and molasses are all wonderful and provide excellent nutrients for building a healthy body. The last supplement Dr. Christopher recommends is kelp. His recommendation was two or more kelp tablets to keep the body in good condition and for preventative nutrition.
If there is any indication of a thyroid issue, he recommended between five to ten tablets per day. An easy way to take this supplement is to add kelp flakes to salads and soups or use it as a salt replacement (try it on popcorn!).
Kelp is a sea plant
and like all plants, it uptakes surrounding minerals (including an abundance of trace minerals in the ocean) and converts them to be easily used by us. These minerals are vital to the overall health and wellness of the entire body. Kelp is the food with the highest amount of iodine. Because it is a whole food, taking high amounts of kelp will not cause hyperthyroidism (like high dosage iodine supplementation) as the body will utilize what it needs and eliminate the rest.
Kelp is known as a very important herb for healing the thyroid, and when the thyroid is functioning properly it benefits almost every other system in the body. Dr. Powell teaches that the thyroid secretes thyroxin, which aids in many body functions. Thyroxin
controls and regulates metabolism, vitalizes all cells, increases and strengthens heart function, stimulates and brightens the mind, regulates body fat, controls intestinal activity, aids the pancreas, has a regulating effect on the ovaries and testicles, works with the parathyroid to regulate the action of mineral salts in the system and acts in conjunction with the pituitary gland to exert a profound influence on metabolism in general (Dr. Christopher’s Herb Syllabus, p 317).
Kelp is not only helpful for the thyroid. With its high nutritional profile, it is also supports the endocrine glands, mucus membranes, helps clear liver and gall bladder congestion, aids a sluggish pancreas, assists with indigestion, is an antacid, and also
helps to support the kidneys, prostate and all female organs (Dr. Christopher’s Herb Syllabus, p 315). Dr. Eric F. W. Powell found that kelp helped in many cases of headaches, including migraines. “Neck pain and congestion comes from various causes, but whatever the case, Dr. Powell found it unusual to locate a case in which Kelp could not be helpful” (Dr. Christopher’s Herb Syllabus, p 315).
I have been using Dr. Christopher’s Thyroid Maintenance Formula to get my daily dose of kelp. I notice a difference on days I forget to take it.
If you haven’t been taking the supplements recommended in Dr. Christopher’s 3 Day Cleanse and Mucusless Diet book, start now! These whole food supplements have absolutely made a difference in my energy, brain power, and overall health.
